Friday, 11 September 2026 | 08:30–13:30, followed by lunch
Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management, Université libre de Bruxelles

ECARES and the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management are pleased to host an economic workshop dedicated to “The Dynamic Effects of Mergers”, organised in connection with the Economic Study prepared by Oxera for the European Commission.

The Study provides an economic framework for assessing the dynamic effects of mergers, including their impact on innovation, investment, entry and future competition, and contributes to the European Commission’s ongoing review of its Merger Guidelines.

The workshop will bring together leading academics, representatives of the European Commission and national competition authorities, as well as competition economics practitioners, to present and discuss the findings of the Study.

The programme includes opening remarks by Guillaume Loriot (DG Competition, European Commission), Mathias Dewatripont (Université libre de Bruxelles) and Helen Jenkins (Oxera), followed by a keynote address by Philippe Aghion (Collège de France and INSEAD).

The morning will continue with a presentation of the Study and two panel discussions focusing respectively on theories of dynamic harm and theories of dynamic benefits, with contributions from leading experts in competition economics.

Closing remarks will be delivered by Anthony Whelan, Director General, DG Competition, European Commission.

Registration for this event is now closed.
