Tribune: Mathias Dewatripont pointe, dans une tribune au « Monde », les succès et les échecs de la stratégie européenne de soutien à la recherche pharmaceutique, d’achat et de distribution des vaccins menée pendant la pandémie de Covid-19.

La pandémie de Covid-19 a vu, dans les pays européens, une mobilisation sans précédent en matière de recherche, de développement, de production et de distribution de vaccins (qui a cependant laissé de côté la question, pourtant essentielle, de l’accès aux vaccins pour les pays les plus pauvres).

This article, based on ECARES WP 2022-14, draws lessons from the covid vaccine and vaccination experience for Europe. It highlights the impressive US ‘Operation Warp Speed’ performance in terms of vaccine development and the role played by the European Commission in terms of coordinating vaccine purchases for the 27 Member States. It also evaluates the vaccination strategies pursued by the Member States.
